HOW TO STOP MISBEHAVIOR

As a mother of 4 children ages 3 to 12 (very soon to be 4 ~ 13) I have made my share of mistakes, why did I react that way moments, and going to bed at night with more regrets than feeling I did a job well done.  I have read quite a few books that appear to be very logically, but not practical to implement.  They gave me a few haha moments and oh yes I can relate to that scenarios.  Tried the methods for a few days and things wouldn't seem to work and wind up back where I started...feeling more like the limo driver, live in maid, nurse, servant, anything but a loved and respected mother. 

Now I grew up in a generation that is so different from my children.  I'm sure parents my age remember the "belt", the "spoon", and the "ruler".  It was a much  different time.  Perhaps respect out of fear isn't the way to go, but a total 180 doesn't work either.  So how does one stop misbehavior?  How does one get respect and love from their children?  Have you asked yourself these questions?
